The Bay Area has a new team to cheer for after the launch of the Golden State Valkyries, a WNBA team of its own.

The franchise’s chosen nickname has basketball fans reeling as Valkyries remains attached to their beloved Golden State Warriors based on its meaning.

Another thing that made it an internet hit is the jersey colors, which caught the attention of women’s college star Paige Bueckers.

“Most beautiful colorway ever,” she tweeted on X.

The 22-year-old Bueckers plays point guard for the University of Connecticut Huskies and will remain there for another season after a successful 2023-2024 season.

She was unanimously named to the first team All-American for the second time.

In February of this year, she confirmed that she would return to the school for her senior year, despite rumors that he could go Top 3 in the 2024 NBA Draft.

This is why many Golden State fans are excited about her tweet stating that she may be starting to emerge by playing for the Valkyries.

There’s a good chance that Valkyrie and Bueckers will work together

It is unknown if the WNBA will award the Valkyries the top pick for 2025, but in many cases an expansion team usually gets an advantage during this process.

What is certain, however, is that Bueckers is a Top 3 pick, with Bleacher Report even stating that there is a talent gap between her and many of those expected to declare for the WNBA draft.

Bueckers won the 2021 AP Player of the Year, Naismith College Player of the Year, USBWA National Player of the Year and the John R. Wooden Award in the same year.
