NFL strength of schedule 2024: Every team ranked

When it comes to the 2024 NFL schedule, no one has it tougher than the AFC North.

That division was the first in more than 50 years in which each of its teams finished with a winning record, ultimately pushing the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers to the playoffs. Since these teams all get home-and-home matchups against each other every fall, that means the AFC North is home to the three toughest schedules in the NFL this season.

The leader is the Browns, whose opponents won a total of 158 games in 2023. Not far behind are the Ravens and Steelers. The Cincinnati Bengals, who battle the other division cellar dwellers in the AFC, clock right in the middle of that curve thanks to games against the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers.

Of course, the schedules that look the most difficult in the offseason rarely turn out to be that way in real life. Clubs like the Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars could fall back. Emerging teams like the Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals and (perhaps) the New York Jets will have a tougher time than their 2023 records suggest.

But we cannot predict the future; we can only look backwards and look at trends from there. Based on how each team performed in 2023, here are the toughest schedules of 2024, from the Browns to the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints
